Tell me about your experience with the TIRE REPAIR KIT/flats...

Nope,
smart Australia doesn't install the air pressure sensor and warning device; nor is it offered as an option.

I read that such sensors are wireless senders; each on a different frequency or code so they don't interfere with each other or a passing car. The cars's detection system has to be re-programmed if a sensor is replaced. If the sealant gunks it up, the repair costs could be unexpectedly high.
You have the bull by the wrong horn.

The passion is an optioned up "comfort" model compared to the pure. It costs a few thou more on what you may call "stuff that im just gonna upgrade anyways."

The pure is the car meant as the starting point for customisations.

Carrying a spare wheel with jack and wrench will consume most of the luggage space in a smart... unless someone comes up with an external tailgate mount. Ugh!

And then the real problem is that on the smart, the rear wheels are wider than the front... so you need to carry two sizes of spare wheel. Now see why it comes with an inflation repair kit ?
yeah i see. after i posted my previous reply. i went to the website and built one for the 40th time. yeah the pure is the way to go. i just liked the power windows and the panoramic roof, and the paddle shifter. then i thought what the heck am i gonna need a paddle shifter for? and the power windows? i could do without those and the a/c. the panoramic roof would be nice though.

i appreciate the advice

I know this is a very old thread, but while the car does have two tire sizes, the front tire CAN be used on the rear of the car in an emergency for short distances, so you really would only need the one size. I am still considering buying a spare and keeping it in the back along with a jack and cross wrench.  My last two flats (prior to buying my Smart Car) were sidewall damage from small road debris (a 1 1/2" screw on one occasion, a 3"X3" piece of metal flashing on another). In both cases I was able to replace my damaged tire with the spare in under 15 mins.  The thought of being "spare-less" concerns me still.

Instead of putting the spare in the back storage, look into Add-A-Spare.

I know Ford, who created and sells these and everyone I know that bought one first said its easy to install but great feeling having a spare. And yes, you are better keeping a front tire/rim, and not a rear, as your spare for emergency purposes.

That's fantastic.  A bit on the pricey side, but well worth it for the piece of mind.  Thanks SO much for letting me know about this option.
