Ok, I admit it. I am stumped. If you look at the "Air Distribution Control Knob" (---- anyone want to bet or confirm that in German that is all one word? hehehehe), there is, at the bottom, a little "eye" or lense looking thingy.

I have pored over the owners manual, but I can find no explanation for this item. I initially thought it would be some sort of light that would let me know when the a/c compressor was cycling on and off, but no, that's not it. Is it an internal air tempertaure sensor to tell the compressor when to cycle on and off, perhaps?

Maybe it is a hidden camera so "they" can start watching me again! Now where did I put my medication this morning? (JOKE!) Or is it possible that our German car with a Japanese engine all put together in France also contains a Buddhist dimension?

Anyway, any insight (no pun intened) that may solve this mystery is appreciated. I'm not losing sleep over this mystery ....yet. ;-)

what a goofy 9 pages of elephant dung! Thanks for the great reading material.
after thinking it all over, the 3rd eye is probably the comfort sensor for the climate control, the two little sensors next to the lamp are the motion detectors for the alarm and the gnome in the 12V receptical keeps you from smoking and damaging your lungs.
mmm... I had assumed the third eye is non-functional... but then I have no idea where the sensors are for the climate control. I have mine set pretty much on the same fan and temperature speeds all the time. Something, somewhere is sensing the cabin temperature. Fan speed increases when needed to help cool the cabin. Typically 32 C outdoors ambient and 22 C set cabin temperature. On cooler days with 26 C outdoors, the fan speed cuts down. On hotter days of 34 C the fans run faster... something is "watching"... Infra-red sensor monitoring occupant body temperature... too weird.

With all the flooding here in Qld, as expected this time of year, I can now say that there are no problems with deluging rains. The climate control does a good job of keeping the cabin dry and unfogged... dunno if anything is growing on the air filter yet...
