Tire sensors that are part of the valve stem for the tire pressure monitoring system, I am wonder how the flat tire sealant will affect the sensors if it has to be used.
Are the sensors 'sealed' so they are not affected by tire sealant kind of products?
New sensor cost $100.00 to replace due to having to have used the 'emergency fix' for a flat tire.

If it is like a tire or a belt or anyother 'planned expense' you budget for it. My curiosity is, with the new Smart sale, they offer a road hazard warranty for the tires. Is the sensor operation alone part of that warranty, when the battery does give up the ghost, in otherwords, is it covered? I am surprised that no configuration of the vehicle's design has allowed for a spare. I wonder the statistics, how often do spare tires actually get used. I have had a full size truck for 2 years that I have not so much as even had a nail in. The spare has never touched the ground *** Knock on wood***.

Tire pressure monitoring is going to save lives. It will cost money every few years to replace battries but you will have a sensor working to keep you intouch of your car before you lose control and crash.

You knw, in the Army we had what was known as PMCS, Preventive Maintanemce Checks and Service. Basically it is looking at what can go wrong with a vehicle before you drive it.

Anyone had the tire pressure warning light come on? Mine has - but the pressure in the tires is perfect, (checked three times at various temps). Any suggestions (beyong visiting the smart car dealership)? Thanks - craig

Did you try hitting the reset on the dash?

Is tire pressure set to what the owner manual suggest?

Reply to This

No - it is set to what is on the door frame. Is it different than the owner's manual? Thanks

Did anything help or the light is still on? Did you check the owners manual? My light came on but after filling the tires it went away.

Mine did...
There are 2 reasons for the TMPS coming on... a malfunction indicator of the TMPS - flashing light for approx 60 seconds then on. No flash just stays on is the pressure of the tires.

I set the tires to what is on the door with a digital gauge but it came back on right away. Dam thing must be very touchy... tried adding a couple more pounds which did the trick for a short time.... so I ended filled them up using the gas stations gauge which was approx 10lbs hire then my guage and the TMPS light has stayed off... my tires are probably around the tires recommended inflation and not what is on the door.

So I need to test my guage against a friends guage, but just haven't gotten around to checking it out.

Sorry, haven't read this one for a while. Bought the complete spare to fit the back at the recommendation of the dealer. Bought my spare at the Smart Dealership in Pineville, NC (outside of Charlotte). We bought the standard steel wheel. Have chrome on the car, but bought the spare as steel cause we knew we wouldn't use it for long. Just until we could replace the other tire.

more gadgets, more trouble, that's why i got a pure. the owner's manual is a joke! it's not even for a smart! it tells you to check the door sticker! (unless they updated it from 12/07, my smart is a 12/07, and has "daimler/chrysler ag" sticker on it (i guess MB was using up their current stock of old crap from before they sold off chrysler).
