smart Car

Hey everybody I've been a mechanic for 30 plus years and do not plan to have this car serviced by my dealer which is pretty much my standard M O with everything I buy.
I have read the owners manual from cover to cover and there is no info as to what grade of oil this car uses or any part numbers for oil filter. My assumption is they wish to keep this stuff captive to require return business.
I know the oil is synthetic but what weight? and what amount?
Anyone who has the current specs for this stuff it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Barry

this is the garbage that was told to me when I purchased my Smart car from the Orlando dealership. I was told that I had to have my oil changed at the dealership or I would lose my warranty. I called the main office to find out this was true which it was not I was told I could go anywhere I wanted to to have my oil change as long as I kept receipts of the work. This is the same dealership that told me that I was unable to buy the pot instruments and install them myself. I was told by the same salesperson that they had to be installed by the Smart car dealership.this is just to show you what type of salespeople they have working for them at the Orlando dealership.
I lied, The correct number for bosch is 3300.... the 3323 is 1" too tall.

I used honda filter. It fits and has bigger size . Yes, it's about 1.5" longer than original one , but I don't plan to go offroad anyway.
Hi Leon, Whats the Honda part number for the filter ? I like the cool blue color and the larger size. And the more oil you circulate the better.
S30572.
I think any Honda filters will fit.
I think this must be the manual you have..........................

I expect that you have this manual, i have looked through it and can't find what you are looking for but will send you the page from my manual for europe where it states different grade oils depending on where you live in europe and how hot it gets.
Summer or winter in italy i have always used castrol SLX 0-30 in all my Smarts ( i have had 4) and change oil and filter at
5000 kms. Roger Italy

From the Aussie / International version.
Just got back from Smart Genova, asked about oil and they said they use 0W-40 mobil 1 Qty 3.3lt with filter. Also Smart said if I feel better with Castrol SLX 0-30 to tell them when i book the first service and I can bring the Oil with me.
the obdII scaner can clear problem codes!!! NOT SERVICE INTERVAL LIGHTS!!! please dont confuce these.
Try this from Evilution to reset the indicator: http://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php?page=modpage&id=128&me...

(And please let us know if it works OK)
Hi
I am trying to get the parts together for my oil change place to be able to change my filter (stick it to the "man" and mercedes - they want $200)

I am going around in circles reading about a crappy paper oil filter and a copper washer that needs replacing etc.
Did this filter fit on standard or did you have to get the conversion kit that lets you put on non standard oil filters?
