I'm sure someone once asked about what displays were found to be most useful on the ScanGauge... here's mine.

It's taken a while to bed the 'Gauge in on the smart; I can't prove it, but it seems as if the car has been programmed to change ECU maps after 1500 km (1000 miles) and then again after 3000 km (2000 miles). There definitely seems to have been sudden changes in performance, smoothness and fuel economy. I'm seeing very accurate results on the 'Gauge and fuel economy has bettered the advertised 4.9 lhk (48 mpg US) average. See bottom right hand readout. The top right readout is Tank Used Litres - which is very close (within 0.02 litres) to what it takes to refill the tank.

XGauge codes that are most useful to me have been combinations of:
First character:
0 = Average Fuel Economy
1 = Fuel Used
Second character:
0 = Current Trip
4 = Tank Trip

I have emailed ScanGauge asking if they can supply any known smart specific XGauge codes. No reply. Has anyone managed to get any of the codes off the ScanGauge web site to give meaningful readouts?

i entered the HP code today for the xgauge

got a best of 81.something hp what ever that is.... i wonder how it's calculated... pretty useless to be honest... half the time it's 0.0hp when cruising and light throttle lol...

you cant believe it as the HP gauge told me i was getting approx 81hp and that was at around 4000rpm under high load with the a/c on full, yet when it reached 6000rpm it was down to 35ish HP

i have a dyno graph here that disagrees with that!

Ask Ian. It probably depends on which way the winds blowing.

I bought mine several months ago when the US price was lower and the Australian dollar was buying $0.93 US... now the Aussie dollar is only buying around $0.63 US... I don't follow the USD to Euro exchange rates. When I bought mine, the price I paid was close to the dollar exchange rate plus a few percent; that made it a good buy.

Current US price is $170 direct, including shipping in the US. How favourably that converts to 158 Euro in Italy, I don't know.

Consider buying a spare cable at the same time. The supplied cable is 1800mm long. On the RHD fortwo, it is about 330mm from the OBD port to the underside centre of the dash. Coiling the cable and stuffing it under the dash is the obvious thing to do; but not very elegant. The spare cable I was supplied is a thinner cable so I folded and taped it together to shorten it. This made the cable into a stiff "rod" that helps support the ScanGauge instead of weighing it down. Velcro adhesive tape has a habit of enexpectedly falling off the flax dash covering - usually when the car has been parked in hot sun for a while.

The cable plug is a bit bigger than any telco plugs I have, and is 8 conductor; I haven't any such plugs on hand and my crimping tool won't take the big ScanGauge plug; otherwise I would cut and shorten the cable.

Thanks Ian, As you can see on the photo I don't have the Smart radio, i got Smart to fit a radio with a cable attached so i can just plug in my iPod so if i decide to get the ScanGauge I have a place for it in the dash,There is a bluetooth attachment for the radio which also fits in that space which maybe more use for me, will have to decide. Got to go and get my Smart back at 2 oclock, the ticking noise was the petrol vapour return valve i hope because thats what they changed. Thanks again Roger

I guess punctuation, grammar, spelling, capitalization, intelligibility, etc., are not strong points on this blog.

I made an illegal U turn in front of a policeman. A little bit nasty police officer pulled me over, got my license and registration. When he came back, he asked me to get out, now I thought I was really in trouble, but he just wanted to ask questi...
