our 2006 smart 4/2 has a problem with the tail lights- they are melted inwards, not from the sun or any type of heat being applied. Has anyone else haad this problem, our service rep. took off the lens and stated that the lens was not damaged on the inside.
the only thing I can think of is the exhaust heat is seeping up the sides and coming out around that lens. that could cause the distortion and not affect much else as each plastic has a different melting point temperature.
Do you spend a lot of time in stop and go traffic? I have seen something similar on my Ford Focus, the heat from the brake lights being on caused the lens to melt a little. Just a thought.
We were just informed by Mercedes that our service agent decided that our lights are melted from the outside...how does a light melt when the car is covered and has no other marks from a fire (which she said we had parked near) if a person parked that close to a fire there would be more than melted tail light lenses....if any one else has this problem please contact Smart Canada because they are saying they have not seen this problem before..and will not cover it under warranty

seems like if there was a fire near your smart, you'd have known about it. And it would have done damage to not just the plastic light lenses, but to the rear gate panel and bumper valance. I say write to Smart, send them some hi res photos.
