451 smart fortwo

smart Car

I bought a Brabus 451 in sep. 2010.  I have been looking for a rear hitch, but can't seem to find one. Every site I go to makes them for all smarts but not the Brabus. Can anyone lead me in the right direction. Thought about making one using the tow bolt hole on the rear, but would rather get one from  someone who has fabricated it for the Brabus. I'm sure they are made, I just can't locate one

This may not be too much help, but I am certain that I have read on smartcarofamerica.com that someone discovered a trailer hitch that will fit their passion with their aftermarket center exhaust. If you don't get a more solid response than mine, take a look there. It's probably under the towing/trailer section. Good luck finding one!
Thanks Eddie, Will look into it .
hi I use a center exhaust, and the hitch is curtice.
I'm not getting what your saying Larry! I need a trailer hitch that mounts under the rear of my Brabus, To pull a small trailer. Is there something I missed? Center axhaust? Curtice? Thanks.
I think he meant Curt Hiches. I checked they don't make one for the Brabus.
Thanks Jill. Maybe I'll find one soon. Or make one.
Hi Tony !

I've mounted two MDC towbars on my both m/450 with very good result. I can highly
recommend Michael Papenburg and his products. As You can see and read in following
link, towbars are not ment for m/451 "centerdoublepipe", (read BRABUS).

Now, it's up to You - towbar or "centerdoublepipe". Your option is to change exhaust
to a standard 84 hp exhaust, then the MDC-towbar will fit Your car.

Good luck with Your decicisions (?spelling?)

KfL :-)
Hey Lesse, Thanks. That is very helpful. Thats atleast another option I have. Do you think I could make one using the tow bolt holes with the factory tow hooks? I'm thinking that could be done. But use a nicer bolt and stainless bar for the bumper. Like a stainless nurf bar made for a pickup truck under the door step.
Hi again Tony !

... make one using the tow bolt holes with the factory tow hooks? Yes and No !

Yes: Easypeasy, but depends on what's Your expectations use are. Bicycles,
Snowboards, Skies or some light loadings.

No: For trailer towing - NO WAY ! The m/450 crash bar is made of Aluminium
and the "rolled windings" aren't made for that kind of stress. The m/451 crash
bar is made of Iron and the "rolled windings" aren't made for that kind of stress
ether.

The MDC towbar is TÜV tested, made to apporoval of 94 / 20 / EG and other
regulations. In short - they are made for the purpous of towing in road safety
conditions, just follow the weight and ballpressure limits - AND A GOOD SENCE !

For a second opinion in these matters, contact the good Scotsman Tolsen, also

We can assist you and anyone else that is needing a solution for the BRABUS Edition smart.

Hi Tony,

If you haven't found one yet, go to www.wtsmanufacturing.com and there you will find the smart car adaptor.

Good luck
