So, after 2 months of, "Your vehicle delivery date cannot be estimated at this time", I finally get the message, "October 2009 to December 2009", from the DDE. I can't wait that long!

It sucks, 'cause my Jeep isn't going to last much longer... it's quickly going from dream car to shit pile. I had my fun, but the engine is sputtering and I've already spent more money on it than it's worth. Also, I spent 60 dollars for 3/4 of a tank of gas today. Without a transfer to a closer store I can drive my Piaggio scooter to, I can't afford to work across town in the nicer neighborhood anymore. I NEED a smart.

I wanted one that was fully loaded, say, with the comfort package, fog lights, deluxe sound system, alarm system, and all that jazz. Now that I've read reviews of all those things here, all I want anymore is the comfort package and the fog lights (since you can't install those aftermarket without a lot of trouble and money). But that sucks, because I declined my new dream car from the orphan list 2 weeks after i test drove one. I suppose that makes me an idiot.

The good news is, I'm #1 on the orphan list here in Denver. I'm really starting to hate being "on call" 6 days a week. They didn't call me in June, but I understand they didn't get a new shipment in the entire month. Still, chances are slim i can get what i want the next time they call. But I still wait for that phone call with anxiety.

I need to get on the orphan lists in Albuquerque, NM and Lindon, UT to triple my chances of getting a car in a timely manner. I should call. All I had to do to be put on the orphan list here in Denver was to ask, but I understand other dealerships are asking for money. Perhaps the list in those cities are free as well? It doesn't hurt to ask, I guess.

I know how you feel. All year long I have been able to get a delivery date on my smart with the last one saying Dec. 08 - Jan. 09. Now when I go to the DDE I get the following message:

Your vehicle delivery date cannot be estimated at this time.

It is important to note that the DDE does not reflect any potential changes in vehicle production, distribution and Reservation Holder cancellations. Any of these factors could change your estimated delivery date. Please continue to check the Delivery Date Estimator from time to time for updated information. For additional assistance, please contact smart customer service at 1.800.smart.USA (762.7887) or click here to send an email.

So I sent smart an email asking why my delivery date is no longer available and this is the email reply I got:

Dear smart Enthusiast I do apologize we have been unable to provide you with a delivery date estimate. The DDE considers factors such as vehicle production, distribution and Reservation Holder cancellations. Any changes to one or more of these factors could cause a change in your estimated delivery date. As we finalize the distribution process to take in account any changes in your area to the demand or distribution, we may be unable to provide you with an accurate 90 day window of your delivery date. The DDE is the only tool available to provide an accurate estimated time frame for your vehicles arrival. Please continue to check the delivery date estimator; as it updates daily. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us via email or by phone at 1.800.smartusa. Thank you for your interest in smart USA. You will be hearing from us soon! Lucky for me I have been driving an orphan since May of this year, but this missing delivery date stuff is
I can live with the backlog as long as there is light at the end of the tunnel...but now I have nothing to wait for.

It's not bad enough that we all have to wait months (and years for some of us) but no delivery date at all is unacceptable...shame on smart to treat us this way.
