Just out of curiosity, my gas mileage consistently has been between 50 and 55. This is even with chomping on it daily. Anybody else having the same good fortune as myself. My wife isn't doing so well with hers and thinks that I am blessed with a mutant engine.

I bought my '09 Smart two weeks ago. How do I know if it has the computer upgrade everyone is talking about on here? If not, should I get it upgraded?

I had that problem with not going into reverse and brought it to the smart dealer they wiped the trans software clean and reinstalled it. It cost me 112. dollars but has been great since....but then again I've only had the car a month. It only had 12,000. miles on it when I bought it.

Glad to see that my gas mileage is not a one off. Actually had a great trip that ended up with me getting 57 MPG (that's U.S. not Imperial). As for the 2.3 upgrade, since school is now out (yes being a teacher tends to muddle things sometimes) I can schedule to have it done within the next few days. Until then I just keep on keeping on.

I've had my 2009 passion cuope for a month and have gotten 46 to 50 miles to a gallon (us).

As for your smart not intermittantly not going into reverse, have you had the 2.3 software update that addresses this concern?

Still getting 50 - 55 U.S. MPG. However the shifting has been acting up lately. Not wanting to find reverse sometimes. Which leaves me with either spending roughly 2500.00$ or trade on a new. Kind of like puk (think Shakespear) though. Any words of wisdom?

I was getting 42MPG (US) in my 2009 and now I upgraded to new 2012 and have been getting 45MPG (US)

Are you talking about 50-55 imperial miles per gallon or US gallon?   I am averaging about 56MPG Imperial Gallon.

I've been getting a combined 44mpg consistantly for the last two years and I'm one of those guys that drives his smart like it's a 'vette.
